Confidentiality
The Positive Place wants its services to be of the highest quality. In order to provide appropriate and quality services, information must be collected from service users. However, The Positive Place recognises its position of power as both a service provider and employer, and the potential to disempowered people by misusing information.
The Positive Place is committed to the empowerment of its users. Therefore it will only collect information for the benefit of service users and potential users. Information will be collected, used and stored in a way which assists service provision whilst guaranteeing confidentiality.
The Positive Place is also committed to being a good employer of paid and unpaid staff. Information pertaining to employees will be protected by the same high standards of confidentiality which apply to service users.
“Trustees, staff and volunteers of The Positive Place may be placed in a position where they have access to confidential records. We believe that it is the individual’s right to determine who knows about their HIV or AIDS status, and should a user of the Centre choose to reveal their status, this information will be regarded as completely confidential.
Any other information concerning the lives of individual users of The Positive Place will also be regarded as confidential and not divulged outside the organisation without informed consent.” Under certain circumstances The Positive Place may break confidentiality. Such circumstances fall under two categories: Duty of Care and Child Protection. A full copy of the confidentiality policy is available on request.
Equal Opportunities Statement of Intent
The Trustees and Staff of The Positive Place believe that we are privileged to be part of a multi-racial, multi-cultural community and are therefore committed to an Equal Opportunities Policy in employment practices and in service provision. The Positive Place acknowledges that in society certain groups and individuals are oppressed or disadvantaged, and is committed to taking an active role in counteracting these discriminatory forces. We believe that to discriminate against anyone on the grounds of HIV and AIDS status, race, colour, religion, gender, sexuality, physical or mental ability, family commitments, age or unrelated criminal conviction is a denial of our rights which demean us all.
How the organisation works
The Positive Place is a membership organisation. Membership is separate from being a Service User. Members are people who support the aims and values of the organisation and can be both Service Users and/or supporters. The Positive Place is governed by a voluntary Board of Trustees, who are elected by PP members at annual general meetings. They have a legal responsibility for the organisation. The Project Coordinator manages day to day functions and strategic direction. We are always keen to recruit Trustee’s, call the office for more information.
